(no subject) @ 09:54 am
bethbethbeth:
Hi, folks. Many of you will have read back in October (on Making Light and other blogs) about Scraps (Soren) DeSelby (aka, baldanders), a freelance copyeditor who suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. The most recent updates say that he's progressing in his convalescence (starting to walk again, etc.), but as he had no health insurance, money is a problem - and will likely continue to be for the foreseeable future. I only know him by reputation, but many of his friends (and friends of friends) have been involved with fund-raising efforts to help defray the costs of medical treatment. One of my own friends - sykii - is selling prints of her [quite wonderful] photos for the first time as part of this fund-raising effort. If you get a moment, please visit her journal ( here), and see if you might be able to help out with this worthy cause.
Countdown to Christmas...Day 25 @ 05:07 am
accioslash:
I've occasionally been asked to draw various Harry Potter characters other than Snape and Harry and I thought this might be a good opportunity to try out a few characters you wouldn't normally see on this journal. Though there *might* just be a brief appearance from some old favorites further down the count. ;D ( Day 25 Art below the cut... )

Pagan Bingo Card @ 07:42 pm
elfwreck:
Pagans, especially Wiccans, get a variety of responses when they tell people about their religion. While many of them are honestly curious and no harm is intended, some are openly hostile... and plenty more are just actively clueless, questions or comments that would never be directed at a religion that didn't have a history of being suppressed or ignored or ridiculed. This bingo card is designed around Wicca and other witchcraft religions--but these are the same questions/comments that get thrown at other Pagans, some of whom get the double fun of explaining, "No, Wicca isn't like that" and "... but it doesn't matter because I'm not Wiccan." And while, in many areas, these responses are nowhere near as hostile or rudely ignorant as some of the other privilege-based responses to other situations (race, disability, poverty, etc.), they are... consistently annoying. Consistent enough that any Pagan who does public outreach of any sort has a set of canned responses for each of these, enough that we're prone to disregarding these as serious questions or comments. Enough that many of us have wound up snarling at unsuspecting co-workers or acquaintances who thought they were being polite. If you find yourself wanting to say any of these... be very aware that they are clichés, that we have heard them all many times. That some of them are rude no matter how well-intentioned they are. That each of them could trigger a pages-long rant, or sever a budding friendship. Sometimes even a long-standing friendship. (Note to f'list: I am not dismayed by any of these. I am, however, bored by some of them, and tend to play with my answers, because I can be damned sure that's the only entertainment I'm going to get from them.) If you want to say any of these... be aware the reaction may not be as mild as you'd hoped. ( Bingo Card under a cut-tag 'cos it's large-ish )

I'm going to New York tomorrow until Thursday...half unexpectedly/half not. Um. Basically, it was riding on the fact of my father actually giving me money. Since that's not a very reliable reality, I didn't actually think he ever would...but he did. So, I'm going... Won't be on much tonight. Tons to do... switching_it_up posting will have to resume tomorrow.

Just one drabble left! I'm all caught up in rereading for one of my writing commitments. Now I just have to finish the many hours of Yuletide source review, whee! XD I actually have already done work today, gah. I desperately need to clean, too, the house is just sort of going quietly to hell while I'm too busy to care. But, all of the Grab Bags have been paid for now, and will be shipping out on Weds, which is the first day I'll have time. Dentist for me tomorrow, whee, and then Pod gets his shots on Tuesday. At least that won't be as bad as what happens to him two weeks after, snip snip. Poor kid, he has no idea what's coming! #29: Sirius/Remus/James for emiime( Festivus hot wax )

( Remember: drabble posts now appear on livejournal and insanejournal) Challenge #258: Truly Madly Deeply. This is the fourth in a series of challenges based on the titles of Alan Rickman movies ( note: yes, yes . . . Rickman and Snape still aren't the same person. Work with me here, folks *g*). With Truly Madly Deeply - as with all the movies used in this challenge series - it's only the title you need to use as a prompt for your drabble, i.e., you needn't consider the plot or anything else having to do with the film (however, with this film, in particular, you might want to draw on at least part of the plot of the movie for your drabble, if you're familiar with it)

Wow. Just wow. I'm just hugging myself all over. Feelin' the love, y'know? Because some incredibly kind, generous soul has anonymously upgraded my account at IJ to PERMANENTLY INSANE!!!! I never thought I'd have a permament account but I really, really love the idea! I just went and checked out the features and it means I have SO many oodles of userpics available, that I'll never run out again. Among other fun things. Thank you, thank you, to whomever did this lovely thing for me. I am truly thrilled and touched. Jordan

I'm rereading my Yuletide source and Strange Creatures so far, and enjoying the little break from writing, though I expect to be back at it soon. Pod's gotten very bitey in these past few days -- his full kitten hyperness is back, and mommyhands are clearly toys! Which isn't too bad, unless the mommy they're attached to is trying to sleep. -_- #28: Harry/Draco for slashersrock( Christmas kissing )
